Clean Pools and Use Less Chlorine … With Minnesota Moss?

September 16th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Another environmentally friendly and off beat story in swimming pools, A Minnesota company, Creative Water Solutions, envisions will keep tens of thousands of swimming pools clean while drastically reducing the use of chlorine by adding sphagnum moss to pool water. Moss keeps a pool’s biofilms under control, using less chlorine  – just enough to kill free-floating bacteria. It also eliminates the need for cyanuric acid, which is added to outdoor pools to stabilize the chlorine. Moss naturally keeps the thousands of Minnesota Lakes clear. It was also ulitized for centuries as an absorbent by Native American Indians who used it as a diaper in papooses.
