Using Catfish to clean algae-ridden foreclosed pools in Florida.

September 8th, 2009 · 1 Comment

During research on our previous algae in swimming pools post, this news item caught our attention. A low cost alternative is becoming popular for cleaning foreclosed pools in Florida using an algae eating catfish native to Central America called the Hypostomus plecostomus.  The “plecos” catfish is popular in the aqarium market for its ability to self clean tanks. The jury is out on this as a viable solution, but credit state officals for creative thinking in hard times.
